not sure when this started but was recently after on of the past few updates i noticed this. I have automatic updates turned off. i check periodically when i'm at home and on WiFi. maybe every couple of days or so.

i can go into the app store, see the updates and either select which to update or update all - like normal. once selected it shows they're updating and when i go back to the home screen or wherever the app was (in a folder or elsewhere) it would show that it's updating. I can click on the app and pause it or just wait until it's done updating. I can also lock my iPhone and it will still update in the background. i can re-open the phone later and see the apps has been updated. Even if i go into another app it will still update.

NOW, if i do the same steps, i select each update or update all. it will start each app and show how much left it's needed to update in the app store but when i go to the home screen or hit the power button. it will not show the app is updating unless i leave it on the main screen. if i lock the phone or go into another app and a few mins later get out of the app, it will still show the apps that were supposed to be updating, not being updated. like it's waiting for me to stop what i'm doing, leave it on the main screen and it will update.

before it never did that. i could forget about it once i selected the app to update and can come back to my iPhone with that app updated. hopefully i haven't lost anyone here.

anyone else have this issue?
