Appstore updates?

Hey guys, i just got my brand new Iphone 8plus, I'm having an issue where I'm noticing that the appstore won't tell me when there is an update to an app. It's only when I open up the app and give it a second that it shows That there are app updates, This happened twice today already.

So I am not seeing the badge icon for updates and it doesn't seem like the apps are downloading the updates as they should be. Any Help?

Can't explain it either. Happens all the time to me too. I just manually update once in a while. iPhone 7+ but I don't think it matters.

I read in another thread that the phone has to be connected to power to auto update? Is that true?

It's been like that for years with my iPhone/iPad. Although I'm sure some apps to auto-update....maybe the more frequently used ones?...
