Other AquaTransport: Fix connection issues on OS X 10.6 – 10.9. (Without a proxy)

Hi everyone!

I wanted to let everyone know about, and make a new thread for, my latest package for fixing HTTPS/SSL/TLS issues in Mac OS X 10.6 – 10.9. Instead of using a proxy server, this package actually patches SecureTransport directly.

This means:

• Better performance
• No proxy settings to configure
• IMAP email does not require extra configuration

If you've previously used Legacy Mac Proxy or Aqua Proxy, please uninstall them first using Aqua Proxy's uninstall script. (The uninstall script for AquaTransport will not uninstall Aqua Proxy, you must use Aqua Proxy's uninstaller.)

These packages always have a lot of moving pieces to keep track of. If something seems to be amiss, please post in this thread!

Download from mavericksforever.com. (Even if you're on 10.6 – 10.8.)

Awesome stuff, makes signing into my iCloud a lot easier! I just removed AquaProxy using the uninstall.command it came with, but I was still getting these pop up in the console.

I had to manually remove with:

launchctl remove Wowfunhappy.AquaProxy.Restarter
launchctl remove Wowfunhappy.AquaProxy.Proxy

And then delete the two plist files under /Library/LaunchAgents/.

Thank you, I found the problem, when the launchd jobs were renamed in a previous version of Aqua Proxy, I forgot to update the uninstall script to match. 🤦 Updated Aqua Proxy with a fixed uninstall script.

Some questions, how can i setup GMail and iCloud Mail so that they work with AquaTransport? Do i just do it the old fashioned way, without specifying localhost and whatnot? Asking because i'm on Snow Leopard, and there's no Internet Accounts panel on System Preferences. The new TLSFix based solution works great! ALL my internet-dependent Dashboard widgets have begun working properly again!

Correct, no localhost stuff anymore!

I haven't tested Gmail on Snow Leopard specifically, but with AquaTransport your Mac should just speak modern TLS regardless of what protocol is in use.

Yeah! I used the method described here, and it works just fine! iTunes gives me a -9806 error when trying to access the iTunes Store, but i assume it's just a thing to do with me using iTunes 9.2.1 still. I'll try on Mavericks to check, but since everything else works, 11.4 will also likely work. Thank you!

I'm on Snow Leopard.

All the email images load in Apple Mail now, the iTunes store works. Haven't really explored what else might work, perhaps I can get my Apple Mail account working again in Mail.

Should I be able to log into iCloud via Preferences or just enter my Apple details in Mail and connect? I've tried both and always get a 'unknown Apple ID/password.'
The creditials work on other machines and in when logging into iCloud with Momiji.

Yes, but you need to do the dance where you enter your normal username and password once, get a code on a different apple device, and then log in again with your normal username and your password immediately followed by your code.

No, didn't work. I didn't expect it to as I tried that last month trying to login on an iPhone 4S.

Okay, thanks. This is a separate problem that appears to affect most iCloud accounts but doesn't affect mine for some reason, which is nice for me in some ways but also kind of annoying.

iPodNano3 says he has a fix for this... something will be forthcoming, don't know when though!

Yes - it's odd, when I had the iPhone issue plenty of people online posting the pass code remedy but just wouldn't take it.

It's not an issue really - don't need iCloud/Mail, was just trying it out.

As it happens, I also noticed this just a couple of hours ago.

Can you please try replacing the contents of /usr/share/aquatransport/config/headers.txt with the following text?

Dictionary
http*://lookup-api.apple.com
User-Agent: Legacy Mac OS X via AquaTransport (https://mavericksforever.com)

Dictionary
http*://upload.wikimedia.org/
Referer: https://en.wikipedia.org/

Save the file, then quit and re-open Dictionary.
