Let's say I have $2,500 to spend and I don't have a preference for 13" over 15". I only want high performance and I want to keep the computer for years to come. My only deal breaker is that I must have 16 gigs of RAM and a 500 gb or more SSD. What's the best machine for me!

2016 15 inch base model with 512 gb ssd
Yeah I tend to agree. Though that puts you $100 over your budget, before tax. Don't know how hard and fast that number is for you.

If you have no size preference, the quad core and dedicated graphics on the 15" far surpass any 13" you can build.

If you absolutely cannot/will not exceed $2500, and you must have the 512 ssd, the 13" is your only choice.

Also if he does the student discount it should be fine. It might go over due to tax though

I have a bit of flexibility. So, the lowest quad core surpasses the highest duo core in speed. I was thinking that unless the software is specifically programmed to use all 4 cores, a duo core woukd be faster in most applications.

Thanks for your comments.
