Still here.
Um, what is it?

I found it in my /Library/StartupItems folder.

Anyone following this thread knows I'm looking for some kind of mystery app that runs and dies rapid-fire in the Dock when I login/wake the computer from sleep.

Tried Google but unless I overlooked it, nothing was too helpful. Thanks.

Your Google-fu may leave somthing to be desired. :)

The first link when Googling for "arcana mac os x". Did you install the Arcana start up prefpane? Is it in your /Library/PreferencePanes/? What does the contents of the files in /Library/StartupItems/ArcanaStartupSound say? And finally, something that starts in your Dock and then disappears is in your user's start up items in from the Accounts prefpane. Anything in /Library/StartupItems/ starts as a service that is system wide long before you log in, and wouldn't be something you see in your Dock.

Well maybe you can help me with this. The ArcanaStartupSound is apparently the Startup Sound preference pane, so that's no problem.

As far as the app that starts and stops in the Dock at login, it is not (or doesn't seem to be) any of the apps in my login items list because I've removed them all and rebooted and it didn't help. Please, if you would, read through that thread I linked to and see if you can help me.
