Archiving Backups.backupdb to ZIP, DMG...?

I have Time Machine folder Backups.backupdb in external USB HDD and i try to find a way to permanently archive it to ZIP or DMG or something similar. Is this doable?

Just follow "Create a disk image from a disk or connected device" at this link to make a DMG of the drive.
