I'm a creative professional who's constantly running out of hard drive space. All four bays in my tower are filled and used for work files that I need to access regularly. Eventually these files are archived onto bare SATA drives via docking station and packed away for safe keeping (I have at least half a dozen 1TB drives).
Lately I'm finding myself in a situation where I need to frequently reconnect these archived drives to access old files for new projects and need a better setup other than using a single-bay docking station (sometimes I need to grab files from multiple archived drives). I've poked around a while for ideas and have not found anything that seems to fit what I think I need which is basically an external hard drive enclosure that has:
I don't want to use a dual docking station that might not protect the drives as well as a dedicated enclosure. Also, I don't necessarily need a RAID setup (since these drives are the backups) and many of the NAS solutions I've been reading about seem to have a lot of functionality that I don't necessarily need.
Any other designers or photographers running into the same situation? I'd love to hear what your solution is.

- Multiple bays (at least 2)
- The ability to hot swap easily
- Firewire 800/USB
