Since we are experiencing arctic freeze over most of usa. I wonder if it had any ill effects on our iphones. I went for a walk yesterday and it was 16 degrees outside and i walked around watching plex. I did not see any slowdown in display or any ill effects on the phone.

I don't know what will happen to the phone, if anything at all, but Apple advises against it.

"Environmental Requirements
Operating ambient temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C)
Nonoperating temperature: -4° to 113° F (-20° to 45° C)
Relative humidity: 5% to 95% noncondensing
Operating altitude: tested up to 10,000 feet (3000 m)"

Extreme cold can reduce your battery life. I'm not 100% sure if the effects are permanent though.

actually cold can help preserve Li-Ion batteries & prevent aging. batteries out of production that are needed as replacements in the future are often stored cold.

however if you're talking about how much charge it can hold, then you are correct; cold batteries hold less charge.

so i guess they don't sell iphones in alaska then? or everyone has 2 phones... their iphone for summer and some other phone they use in the winter?

When I used to take my iphone 5 up the mountains snowboarding, I did notice that the battery would drain faster when I hardly used it. Also, sometimes when I did try using it, it'll shut off automatically.
Got off the mountain and it was fine.
