are 4 slot usb hubs fine to use on laptops?

i use one on my desktop but are they ok for laptops considering laptops use less power to support or theres something to note about these i should know about? I want an extra usb slot for my mbp 13' for my iPhone.

I bought three different cheap powered USB hubs that all stopped working. I finally bought a more expensive one that received great reviews on Amazon and it's the only one that has worked well for me:
