I own an iPhone 7, which I love. I tried a 7 Plus, but it was too large a form factor for me.

It’s hard to wrap my head around the new phones’ dimensions because “screen size” corresponds with a different form size when the screen’s wraparound.

So.....are all the new phones much larger - more like 7 plus than like 7? Are those with my prefs screwed?

The iPhone XS (X replacement)is very similar in size to the 7 (it is slightly bigger)but with a 5.8 inch screen. The other new ones just get bigger. The XS Max is about the size of the 7 plus with a 6.5 inch screen, and the size of the lower cost XR with a 6.1 inch screen is somewhere between those two. If you want something similar in size to what you have now, the XS is your only option out of the new lineup. I don't care for big phones either so will probably keep my 6s for a bit longer and then get an XS (considering) or an 8 (more likely). The 8 will be good for years.

Ok, thanks.

iPhone XS is 5.7 x 2.8 x 0.3 in
Iphone 7 is 5.44 x 2.64 x 0.28 in
IPhone 7 Plus is 6.23 x 3.07 x 0.29 in

So smallest new phone is between iPhone 7 and 7 plus, but on the low side, and may feel tolerable to me.

Looking forward to seeing it in person at an Apple Store.....

The height is the big problem for me. The 6/7/8 is more than plenty tall in pants or shorts that don’t have particularly deep pockets. The X becomes problematic here. That this is the shortest phone is disappointing.
