While messing about inside my 2009 imac, i broke the optical drive thermal sensor, causing my fans to go mad. The wiring came away from the sensor itself at the drive end, not the motherboard end. The part number is 593 1152, and these are ridiculously expensive to replace.

Does anyone know, if i buy any kind of similar sensor capable of attaching to my optical drive, and splice it to my existing wiring, will this do the job and stop the fans from spinning at max? There are plenty going cheap on ebay with sensors which look very similar to the bit left attached to my optical drive.
