when I buy phones from eBay I usually check their IMEI on blacklist checkers such as imei24, imei.info or imeipro. Is it safe to give these websites an IMEI to check?

No, _not_ all sites are safe, even if they claim to be. Some of them are intentionally trying to abduct iPhone information. Actually, one member last year listed a site that they ‘claimed’ that you could put your serial number into for verification, and that was later found out to be a hacked site, and the thread was deleted.

Swappa is safe. Or alternatively, you can contact your carrier provide them the serial/IMEI number, and they can give you feedback on the phone.

Thank you for your reply, I’m going to get on to the carrier now, thanks

Contacted the carrier (EE) and they confirmed a couple of the phones I’ve bought from eBay are not blacklisted. Never realised I could contact the carrier, thanks for letting me know.

I only use Swappa to check an IMEI, in those rare times where I didn't purchase a used smartphone directly from Swappa.
