Are imacs and Macbook good for gaming?

Hello.

I have a question are imacs and Macbooks good for gaming, as my friends say they are complete rubbish and I should just buy a gaming PC?

Sufficient would be the best you could say. A gaming PC will provide a better experience, at least for gaming.

Ok but would it run games like team fortress, battlefield, arma or would it be poor quality.

Quality would be ok for decent frame rates. The higher the res, the lower the frame rates and the 27" iMac has a very high res. My son runs battlefield on his 2007 iMac, just barely. New ones should be much better.

Ok thank you. If I got an iMac I would get a 21.5. And if I got a MacBook I would get a 13.3 screen size. But I'm not sure what to get?

Why is that? Sorry I just do not have a clue? Is it because of the graphics card or ghz?

Unreal 2004 struggles on my 2008 Macbook. I'm sure the current Macbook graphics are a step up, but not by much.

A Mac isn't designed for gaming. It will work, but if your primary concern is games, then you really should look elsewhere.

If you make sure to get the best GPU in your iMac when you order, it won't be too bad. It's been a while since the iMacs have been updated, though, so the GPU is a little old. Stay away from the MacBook for gaming, though, they have terrible GPUs. The 15" and 17" MBPs have decent graphics cards on the high end, but the MacBook is terrible.

The Macbook is the low end Mac laptop. Its great for productivity, etc. However I would suggest getting a high end imac 27" with the 1GB ATI video chip for gaming. I don't do much gaming anymore, but its the video card, or video chip that makes most of the difference when it comes to good graphics.

I know that the Mac Books do not do well with heavy graphics, and were never meant to be gaming machines. Laptops in general were never really meant for gaming as is. The mac Book pro may be a better choice as far as laptops go.

If you run windows through Boot Camp, you will have no problems that you wouldn't experience on any windows machine. Like crashing, freezing and needing to shut down and reboot from sleep, viruses that never stop coming, and all the other wonderful things that go with Windows.

If you want great gaming experiences go buy a PS3, there set up just for that.

Don't buy the aluminum 24" imac with the 3.06 processor for gaming, the video card won't hold up. Ebay is full of these imacs being sold for bad/ dead video cards and no Apple is not doing nothing about extended repairs.

I run torchlight just fine on my 4 year old MBP... but that game was designed for a netbook

I remember when L4D came out, and my (at the time 2 year old MBP I believe) only met the minimum requirements... The general rule of thumb is, if you're a PC gamer, you keep a PC to game on, or you stop gaming.
