Its been great to use the iPhone and iPad to buy traditional print media, like comics. I have been using ComiXology's apps (Comics, DC Comics, Marvel, and the new Scott Pilgrim app). However, I am a bit concerned about building a comics library that I can't really store or backup anywhere. If ComiXology goes caput, would the comics remain on Apple's servers or would I effectively lose everything I bought?

Your iDevices only hold so many comics, and when you are done reading them, they are eventually deleted to make space for other comics. Also, every time you have to restore your phone, you lose all your comics and must re-download them (even if you restore from backup). Of course, you can always re-download the ones you purchase. But if for some reason the company stops providing comics (if they go out of business or lose the rights) their servers could go down.

So I have two basic questions:

Are in-app purchases like these comics always stored on Apple's servers for re-download, or could they theoretically go away?

Are in-app purchased comics being stored somewhere when I backup the device, or is there any way to do so? I don't think so, but maybe I'm missing something.
