I got my iPhone XR just over a months ago and got a folding case that has a magnetic latch. Although I have a screen protector, I like that the case can cover the screen to keep it safe when it’s in my bag. And when I put the phone on my desk, I can fold the case back to cover the camera lens to keep it safe from scratching. The magnet is only on the side. The magnet not very powerful, although you can feel it pulling the latch strap when the strap is about 1.7cm away.

However, this article on the Apple website says they don’t recommend the use of magnetic cases. The article is a bit oddly worded. First, it says they don’t recommend use strong magnets. But they then they say that case makers should not use magnets at all.

Googling around, I see that people have had concerns about magnetic cases since the iPhone 6 days, but the general consensus is that they are safe. Any thoughts?

I've tried looking for folding cases that don't have magnets but have not been able to find any.

My wife used a folding magnetic latch case on her older iPhone 6s+ for two years and it did not seem to have any effect on the phone or camera. She finally had to get a new case because the latch failed. She does not use a case on her new phone.

Very strong magnetic fields can impact OIS. The kind used in cases should be fine, and should definitely be fine if you remove the case or don't care about OIS during filming.
