This is a 2017 MacBook Pro 13" with two Thunderbolt 3 ports.

I have a dual display setup, two USB c to HDMI one is cable, one is a hub that also provide power.

It seems that the port closer the the display (towards the back) completely stopped working. It does not charge nor does it show hardware connected.

Problem: No video via usb-c to HDMI.

I've tried connecting my 2019 MacBook Pro 16" to the same setup everything works fine! so its not the cables or the hub.

I've also tested the 2017 MacBook Pro 13" with the LG UltraFine 27" Thunderbolt Display. Again, the port closer the the display (towards the back) does nothing. Interestingly the 2nd port with the LG will charge fine and also show video!

What is wrong with my 2017 MacBook Pro 13"?

Ive reset NVRAM + SMC. no luck. this machine is running Ventura.

Update:

Now something even strange happening.

Both USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports are unresponsive. Won't charge. MacOS shows battery not charging but plugged in.

I'm lost, is it time to dump this? I don't understand, this was a fully functional computer.

Power down.
Disconnect EVERYTHING.
Power back up.
Start re-connecting things.
Does anything change?

Already did this. No go.

Since it’s no longer charging I’m a bit worried.

I still have to see if it works on my Thunderbolt Display. If it does then I might just wipe the os and hope for the best.

Update: I’m going to abandon this. Both ports no go. Now wifi is out. This is just sad. Luckily I have time machine backups.

The shared Thunderbolt controller on the left dying is unfortunately a common occurrence on that model MBP. Happened to both my friend and I.
