What do you guys think, are the name brand cases IE otterbox, mous, casetify, etc that much better than those amazon cases IE ESR, iblason, moko, etc.

I'd say it depends. There are ones which are absolute rubbish and those which are good.

Way back I had a Lifeproof Fre case on an iPhone 5s. The case held up for about a year. I then got some cheap case of Amazon which offered the full waterproof protection of the Lifeproof. It lasted the remainder of the time I kept the phone, about 2.5 more years. Besides being scratched it was still perfectly sound.

It was about 1/3 rd the price and held up better.

I don't know except to say that I have yet to come across a device protector as good as Otterbox and that the previous cases I received from Amazon were not nearly as good or long lasting. These generic ones were a lot more inexpensive though -- so there is that. YMMV

I like Otterbox. Speck seems nice too. I tried Spigen but it felt like a cheap piece of plastic with little protection.

The Commuter is my preferred model.

Only one datapoint, but the $9 ESD case I purchased for my iPhone 8 3 years ago has been an absolute delight. Looking to buy a 12 Mini in January and planning to buy another ESD product for it.

I like the Otterbox Defender series. Until this spring my friend was using an iPhone 3. He says part of that is due to it being in an Otterbox the whole time.
On a side note Otterbox also makes great coolers and all of their stuff is made in the USA.

I’m torn as well, I bought a ESR case from Amazon and it’s amazing. The thing that bothers me is it’s only 10 bucks. Otterbox and mous have caught my eye with their fancy marketing and premium price.

A good number of these case companies are just rebranded Chinese cases that you can find on Aliexpress for a fraction of the cost. Biggest offenders are probably Peel and Totalee, they're so lazy that they don't even put their name on the stuff and have HUGE markups.

I forgot earlier but there’s some crazy drop videos on YouTube of people dropping phones in Otterboxes.
Personally the worse I did was knock off the top of the fridge. There was no damage to the case or the phone but some of the videos they’re dropping them off of buildings.

This is what bothers me, do you know of any other brands who do this

Honestly, yeah.

I have been using Elago's slim fit for a Long time now and they are cheaper than all of those companies and look good. I really hope they release it for iPhone 12 Pro.

I've never found a slim not plastic/tpu case on Amazon thats like the totalee/peel. i usually go with the spigen thin fit or ringke slim but this year I want something actually slim like the totallee and peel.

Do you have any brands or specific models you can recommend that are basically totallee/peels?

Off the top of my head, the only other kinda well known brand that is rebranded is Ringke (although their markup isn't as high as Peel and Totalee). I would assume that *most* of the no name brands on Amazon are just rebranded. It's easy to spot with FakeSpot or ReviewMeta.

I don't really have any specific brands or models to recommend as I tend to stick with name brands like Spigen or Otterbox. Here's a link to thin cases on Aliexpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesal...1031112117&SearchText=iphone+12+pro+case+thin

I wont order **** from aliexpress cause it takes 1-2 months for it to get delivered, international mail tends to get lost "very easily" and with shipping the cost ends up being around $10-15 anyway. I would rather just buy something from amazon.

As for Spigen or Ringke, as I mentioned above their Slims are not slim like Totallee / Peel. You said you knew of cases that were like totallee and peel since totallee and peel rebadge cheaper cases but I dont see any on amazon.

I've never found a slim case like Totallee/Peel by anyone else on Amazon and I've been buying slim cases since the iPhone 5. Always gone with Spigen/Ringke but they arent that slim. I know someone who only buys Totallee cases and compared to my spigen/ringke, that case is truly slim and still strong plastic and not tpu flexible ****

I used to religiously buy only Apple silicon cases, never the leather ones. Liked how they fitted exactly and felt good in the hand with lots of grip. But, the price was starting to get to me (and that is to someone who has bought Apple products for 20 years). Now, I buy Pela cases as they are compostable. So, the environmental side of things is what changed my mind (and the exorbitant price of Apple cases)! They fit pretty well, look nice and are environmentally friendly!

I have purchased a few different no name Amazon iPhone cases for less than $10 for my last few phones, and they have all been great. I have had zero complaints. When I had the iPhone XS Max, I actually purchased 2 very nice slim Amazon cases that were like $8 each, expecting one to fall apart, and it never did. The one Apple Silicon case I bought in my life was for the iPhone X and it cracked after a drop. I got them to warranty it, but I've never had a problem like that with a cheap a$$ Amazon case. My current iPhone 11 Pro lives in an awesome cheap Amazon case half the time, and a nice Pitaka air case the other half of the time.
