Forgive me if this has already been answered.

If I download a song to my iPhone over 3G, how will I know if the file is DRM free?

Also be aware that if the total album or song size is more than 10MB, you won't be able to download it with 3G.

I tried downloading an album a few days ago and couldn't because the album was more than 10MB even though each song was less than 10MB.

Are you sure? I downloaded an album the day it launched and it worked.

This happened with us too. I tried purchasing Alice Cooper's Along Came a Spider and was told it was over 10MB and that I had to download it over a wifi. Checking each song at home, they were under 10MB each. Apparent;y it's checking for total download size.

As of the Macworld Keynote 8M of the 10M songs in iTunes are DRM free, with the promise of making all 10M DRM free by end of Q1.

touring.

it sure isn't from downloads. One example:

Tim Sloane of Ijamsville, MD asks: Al, which of these purchasing methods should I use in order to make sure the most profit gets to you: Buying one of your albums on CD, or buying one of your albums on iTunes?

I am extremely grateful for your support, no matter which format you choose to legally obtain my music in, so you should do whatever makes the most sense for you personally. But since you ASKED… I actually do get significantly more money from CD sales, as opposed to downloads. This is the one thing about my renegotiated record contract that never made much sense to me. It costs the label NOTHING for somebody to download an album (no manufacturing costs, shipping, or really any overhead of any kind) and yet the artist (me) winds up making less from it. Go figure.

Seems like the record companies see more money in their future.
