Is a Sprint device only iPhone 6S purchased from the Apple store unlocked like the other models?

I have a friend visiting from out of the country and the Apple store only has Sprint in the model and color he wants.

Otherwise, it will be locked to Sprint.

If he's paying full price then he should just buy the sim free version. It works on all the carriers.

There is no stock of the SIM free version so I suggested he get one of the other models device only. I just needed to confirm that the Sprint 6S is also unlocked device only.
