My friend has an upgrade and wants a 4S. I have a 4S and want a 5 but I do not have an upgrade. If he gives me his 5, can I activate it on my verizon line? And if I give him my 4S can he activate it on his AT&T line?

No, a Verizon 4s can't be used on AT&T.
