Hi,

I'm about to order a 13" rmbp with 8gb ram and 256 gb ssd. I saw there was issues with the keyboard freezing and a yellow spot on the screen, I don't want to buy a computer that is not working properly and therefore would like to know if these problems are dealt with.

Thanks

Freezing keyboard and trackpad have been fixed with an EFI update. Yellow spots would be hardware related YMMV.

Ymmv means "your mileage may vary"
Means you have to buy one to see... the vast majority are just fine
Only a minute percentage will have an issue

Thank you. Would you say I'm better off waiting until apple sorts the screens out?

my BTO 13" Haswell rMBP was flawless except for the unresponsive trackpad issue, which hasn't happened since the EFI update.

i suggest buying it at an apple store instead of online, if you can. that way you could open it there and make sure it's good for you. they have the personal setup tables you could use to inspect it.

"YMMV" (Your Mileage May Vary) is quite right. I have an original (1. gen) iPad (non retina) and it has image retention issues (ghosting). It partly depends on build quality and partly on your usage pattern, no matter what device (apple or non-apple, tablets or laptops)

I appreciate your replies.

I wish I could buy it in an apple store but we have none here in Ireland, there's one in Belfast, Northern Ireland but it's a bit far from where I am.

If I ordered it through the online store have a problem with the display, would apple replace it?

I also ordered a rmbp via the online store. I was told I have 2 weeks to test it out. If I am not satisfied I can return it, no questions asked.

i did the same (ordered online) and intend to use it as much as possible over the next 1-2 weeks to identify any issues. if there are then i'll return it for a replacement. i do have a store nearby though - so if i do need to replace it, then I think i'd do as radiohead14 suggests and make time to go to the store.

The keyboard and trackpad freezing has not been fixed. Apple has attempted to try to fix it and released a patch but after I have applied the patch, I am still getting random keyboard+trackpad becoming unresponsive.

proof: (i'm able to move the mouse in the video cause I connected an usb mouse) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUdWHGHXsB8

Well that's worrying. How often does this happen?

A little over 3 days running since installing the EFI update, haven't encountered a freeze yet. Before the update i used to get 1 or 2 a day

Not sure if it's different in Ireland, but after Nov 1, I believe they've moved into a "Holiday Return Window." So, anything purchased now can be returned until mid-January, or thereabouts.

I'm planning on buying now, since the EFI fix, for what it's worth.

Thanks for your help. You've been helpful. Ordered my 13 inch retina Mbp two hours ago. Hope I'm going to be happy and not regret it :)

Zero freezes or issues since the update.

Very happy with the machine.

Sounds good!

I just hope I can learn how a mac works. I haven't used one since about 1999 and that was a blue imac we had in school and this is the first ill own myself

The EFI update seems to have fixed the freezing, but I'm still getting errors in Console. It may just be paranoia as I haven't had the freezing or anything else noticeable for weeks.

I was reading about the keypad lights flickering in another thread; have they been fixed yet?
