hello,

i've been trying for days to isolate this problem im having.
i get a kernel panic screen every time i launch tiger.
the only time it doesn't happen is when i launch in SAFE-MODE.
i replaced the hard drive with a 120 gig and installed a fresh copy of tiger
and it still happens unless im in safe mode.
when im in safe mode, i can do anything i want but the minute i do a restart..KPcity.

my question is can the cpu start with bad ram??? according to this site.. its the most common culprit.

http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html

i did upgrade the ram when i first bot the cpu in 04' from 512 to 1 gig
from ramjet

Hardware Overview:

Machine Name: PowerBook G4 15"
Machine Model: PowerBook5,2
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.25 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 167 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.7.1f1

any info that i left out i can get.. i just need some help with this problem cause i want to give the cpu to my lil sister.. without any problems though..

any help would be much appreciated.

thx, mike

KPs except when in safe mode reeks of bad drivers. Did you do any updates or install something new right before this started?

Also, can you start it up in safe mode and get the panic logs? Posting them might help.

Definitely going to need logs. The easiest thing to do would be to make a backup and archive and install if it's drivers.

i did a complete erase and install and when i finished, it went through the welcome screen and then it crashes... i re-booted in safe and i copy/pasted this log.. im not sure if it the right log but here it is:

It doesn't necessarily matter which CD/DVD you use but are you using the original discs that came with your computer? You want to use an install disc that is a an equivalent version or higher.

i also made sure i did a software update in safe mode and it still does it..

if these are the wrong logs, then what would the file be named and ill try to find it

thx mike
