I am looking for a Silver 16 GB Verizon iPhone 5S. The closest Apple store to me is on Michigan Ave in Chicago.

Short of going there, is there another way to check if a phone is available? - I am looking to pay full price in order to retain my unlimited data.

I called Apple's 800 number and was put on hold while a rep checked for me. She told me that they "have no way of knowing because they sell out so fast that even if they told me that the phone is available, it may be gone by the time I get there".

And while this makes sense and I understand what she's saying, I would be okay with the phone "selling out" before I get there, as long as I know that at the time of the phone call, they do indeed have the phone I'm looking for.

If I know right away that the phone is unavailable, then I won't even waste my time going there. Does that make sense or am I asking for too much?
