It's been over a year already and I have still yet to find an adblocker that works for Safari under macOS. uBlocks Origin was the best one that had always worked but unfortunately isn't supported on the newer version of Safari.

I bought an app off the appstore, I don't recall the name at the moment, but that stopped working as well. Is there anything new that actually works to block ads? Especially in YouTube?

AdGuard for YouTube works well. It’s a bit janky in that you have to re-load it if you reload YouTube, nothing you can’t get used to though. It makes YouTube bearable again.

I have adguard and it works great on IOS and Mac. They'll probably have a lifetime deal for Black Friday if they don't already. YouTube with their safari extension is ad free. Similar to YouTube Vance on android. Not quite as pretty because its the browser version but everything I need or want is there so I don't miss Vance.

I use AdBlock for Chrome, and have it installed for Safari (Mac Mini M1), too. Alas, I rarely ever use Safari, so, I cannot say for certain how good it works. Certainly one you could try, if you haven't already...

Adguard is free i thought?
AdGuard as a Safari extension is free and is a pretty good product if you only need Safari protection.

AdGuard for Mac is paid. More powerful/flexible blocking of malware, trackers, and ads, DNS protection, etc. Works for all browsers and apps (not just Safari). See https://adguard.com/en/adguard-mac/overview.html

Short review (no, I don't know how independent) covering all AdGuard products https://joetechreviews.com/adguard-review-a-powerful-ad-blocking-solution-but-is-it-safe/

Even if you just use the free product it is good to know that AdGuard has an income stream.

The paid AdGuard is frequently discounted - I bought lifetime licences on special ~3 years ago.

1Blocker, free from the App Store, works a treat for me. They have a premium tier, but I elected not to and just use their ad blocker, and it works. Also can use 1Blocker on iOS as well.

So far AdGuard seems to be working at finally blocking those annoying ads and commercials when playing videos on YouTube since uBlock Origins. I paid for an adbblocker called Wipr and it was working great at 1st, and then all of a sudden it couldn't block YouTube ads. I'm disappointed that I wasted my time and money buying it. Wish I could get a refund. I'm looking for best adblocking app and wouldn't mind paying for it if it works well, and is frequently updated and well supported. Unlike Wipr.

This will happen. AdGuard stopped working for me for a while too. Between safari updates and the cat and mouse game they play with Google/YouTube, sometimes you need to wait for an app update.

What's the benefit of getting the paid version?
As I said before "More powerful/flexible blocking of malware, trackers, and ads, DNS protection, etc. Works for all browsers and apps (not just Safari)." The killer feature for me is that it protects all browsing apps - as well as Firefox, etc., this includes my RSS news reader and DEVONThink. But go to Adguard and see what they say.

I also think there is some benefit in a product with a paid version (even if you stay on the free tier) because they have an income stream which reduces the likelihood of selling your browsing habits which is a risk with free products.
