I'm looking for something like gt5 http://freshmeat.sourceforge.net/projects/gt5 for Mac. Gt5 is a "du-browser" and tracks the changes in directory sizes between runs. I haven't been able to get it to work on Mac. It executes but doesn't behave like it should-gets you stuck in some nonexistant tmp folder.

So I'm looking for something that can do the same thing. Disk Inventory X is good, but I want something that will specifically track the changes in disk space & files.

Basically when I look at my free space and see it's gone from 25GB to 5GB, I just want to easily find what on earth is taking up that much space.

Edit: This fork of gt5 worked for me! To use it

  1. Navigate to /usr/local/bin or wherever executables in your path are.
  2. escalate to root
  3. vim gt5
  4. Paste the code
  5. Save and quit vim
  6. chmod +x gt5
  7. Then just type "gt5" to use it!

There's a much easier way to see what's eating up your disk space.

Download the free little app "DiskWave":
DiskWave Homepage

Then... just open it.
You'll see what to do next.
TIP... go to the DiskWave preferences and make normally-invisible files VISIBLE.
