I have a 2008 iMac (the nice 3.06Ghz model) that has a dead GPU… what a shame; a terrible design rendered this awesome iMac useless.
So, I thought that maybe it could be worth a shot to use it as a monitor. I know that Apple introduced Target Display Mode a year later, so I know that I cannot use it with this iMac (especially since it cannot boot).
Anyone know of a good tutorial that shows how to WIRE a 2008 iMac's display to another machine? It would be cool if I could do it in a way that lets the screen rest where it is in the case, as it's a nice-looking case. I'd just like to see if I could somehow adapt it to DVI and use it with my Mac Pro or something. Any advice?
-Thanks
(I'll continue Googling it… but I usually get stupid results about Target Display Mode, and that's--of course--not what I am looking for.)
