Uh, it's not that I have multiple personalities... :D

But I go to certain websites and my girlfriend might go to the same sites. But I want to log in as me and she wants to log in as her.

So instead of logging in and out and clearing cookies... is there one that will let me set up cookies, etcetera, under me... then pull up a different personality and log in as her with all her cookies?

Hmmm. That doesn't seem easy, like pushing a button. :(

Once it's activated - it's simple; they just default it to a single (default) profile setting to not inconvenience the majority of users who don't need the feature. Once activated - it will inquire as to which profile to load each time; and it's just a simple click selection.

<<<------- Off topic but I just noticed "Thread Starter". That must be a new one from Arn! :D

Actually that has been around for months.

On-topic: Why not just make a separate account for her to log into and then turn on user switching?

I get the shakes everytime my gf is touching my computer. One flick with the mouse and she manages to hit every hot corner I have, activating Dashboard, Exposé and Screen Saver at the same time. And of course she can't find the dock anywhere and double clicks on the Firefox icon dragging it out of the dock and yada yada yada 'why is mac so hard' you know the drill.

:D

One of you uses Safari and the other one Firefox. Problem solved.

Using Firefox profiles isn't really all that bad. Here's what you do.

Open Firefox using the special method here (you only have to do this once)

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager#Mac_OS_X

That is, just open a terminal and type in:

Code:
/Applications/firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -profilemanager

Instead of a normal window, you'll get a profile manager. Create a new profile and name the two profiles so that one is for you and one is for her. Now uncheck the option that says, "don't ask at startup." Select a profile and click to start Firefox.

Now, every time you run Firefox the NORMAL way -- from the dock icon, from the apps folder, whatever -- it will automatically bring up this profile manager first. You just select your profile, or she selects hers, and all your theme, plugin, cache, cookies, bookmarks, etc, will be preserved separately.

Also, you can even add this in:

https://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/index-en.html#profname

It will let you switch profiles on the fly with Firefox running.

You're welcome! :)

Now I just need to start dating again and I can do it on my iMac. ;) :D

I guess it's an easier solution than having separate accounts for some people (and it's exactly the same across platforms -- you can do this on Linux and Windows also). Of course, separate user accounts gives you separate instances of everything, music, pictures, video, screen background and dock, etc. For better or worse.

You do that for the sister of your girlfriend so neither knows you are dating both.
