Are there any Time Machine Plugins?

Dear Forum,

I'm a relatively new user to MACs so please excuse me if this is a stupid question.

Does anyone know if there is any third party or other Plugin S/W available for Time Machine? The reason I ask is that though it is a very good backup tool, Personally I would prefer to have more control over when backups occur rather every hour. Does anyone know if any plugins exist to give more flexibility in this area?
