Are there any CPU or GPU features that the M4 has that the M3 doesn't? The m3ultra/m4max buying decision is going to be extra tough and it feels like information on features is a bit sparse.

I know both have raytracing, but are there more functions on the m4 version?

the M4 has ARMs SME/SSVE for SIMD. thats the only major architectural difference iirc
Thanks. I’m unsure how much I care about those, it seems like it might be tricky to research.

Not on the CPU and GPU but the neural engine on the M4 Max is one gen newer with a 111% increase in compute. So even the M3 Ultra has double of the old gen cores, on paper they are slower than half of the newer cores on the M4 Max. Though you do get double of cores to parallel so perhaps one will out perform the other for some task but sometimes the opposite happens.

The memory bandwidth is also 25% more on M4 Max, while M3 Ultra again has double of the traces but they are 25% slower. So there can be scenarios that the M4 Max can be faster, if the task speed is dictated on a per core basis.

M4 series have higher clocks [4.5GHz vs 4.0GHz]. Afaik that's the only thing I know in CPU.
GPU wise I think its 20% faster [m4 max vs m3 max]...

both have raytracing so they are similar which helps
