I am looking to unlock my phone. I meet all the requirements. am doing for no particular reason but maybe thought it could be useful if I need to switch sims if traveling.

Are there any downsides or cons to doing this?

I could be wrong, but I think unlocking requires you to restore your phone. So there's always a small chance that the restore process doesn't get everything back exactly right.

But yeah, there's no real downside.

thanks! that actually sounds painful to restore if you are traveling to new countries and always swappings sims. I guess a global sim would be best case and tested and done before you go but not all counties are covered in some gloabl sims.

hopefully apple sim takes care of this. but to get all the countries on this could take a good two yrs.

You don't have to restore whenever you change the sim with an unlocked phone - just pop the new SIM in and off you go

You don't have to restore to unlock the phone nor to swap sims. You just swap sims and that's it.
