iPad mini Are there new Smart Covers for the rMini?

Hi there,

Does anyone happen to know if Apple released new Smart covers for the retina mini, or are the old ones the only choices available?

The reason I ask is that I bought an air with a blue Smart cover, and then bought a blue Smart cover for my rMini and they were a different shade [the Air's cover was a darker blue]. I gather that I bought one of the older smart covers for the original mini.

I know this is a trivial issue, but I'm just curious.

Older smart covers were leather, newer ones are polyurethane. And yes, Apple makes the polyurethane ones for both Air and mini. You should be able to get them from Apple's online store if your local stores don't have them.

The air smart covers for both the Air and the new mini should be exactly the same shade of color. Perhaps you mistakingly purchased or they sent you the older version?

They should match though. Going back and forth between both models on Apple's site, they look the same to me. I know that the Smart Cases for both iPads actually come in a slightly different shade than the Smart Cover and trade off green and pink for beige and brown, but because both Smart Case models look to be identical to each other, it would be safe to assume that Apple would make the Smart Cover match as well.

Apple seems to have discontinued it on their website, so you'd have to look elsewhere for left over stock I guess.

And yes the new covers that just came out are different shades.
