I don't know too much about protocol itself but I know that RDP has some benefits on computers, seeing how it's 'smarter' than VNC which simply shows everything as an 'image'. But do those benefits of RDP still apply to iOS devices (or any other mobile platform for that matter)? If they do, what are some of the better RDP apps out there? If not, what are some of the better VNC apps?

I am not looking for anything fancy. Few things I am looking for in an app...
Something doesn't require a subscription. I'd like to make a one time purchase and be done with it. Something that I can easily transfer files. Something that has intuitive and responsive controls. Lastly, it'd be nice if the app wasn't so hideous but I found that most of them are, so that's just a plus if the app is pretty.

Well strictly from a financial perspective, the Microsoft RDP client is free and works wonderfully.

But RDP is only a feature of Win 7 Pro and up I think?
