Are these dead pixels or something else?

I just bought a used 2008 MacBook and near the bottom of the screen, it looks like there's a bunch of scratches initially. However, after examination, it's not on the outer surface of the screen. It looks like a strange pattern of dead pixels or lint or something. Anyone ever have or see something like this before? Thanks!

I used a dry microfiber cloth, but I can try a moistened one as well. When the screen is off though, it looks perfectly smooth to me down there though. I'll check again after work.

Perhaps some dust got burned into the screen.
