Are US and International iPhone6s the same ?

So I know in the past that the US iPhone operated on different cellular bands than the international versions. Is that still the case with the iPhone 6s ?

In essence what I am asking is: Is it still a bad idea to buy an iPhone in the US for use in Europe ?

I had an ATT iPhone 6+ and I was using it in Kuwait signal/LTE work with no issues
