The MR buying guide for the Homepod Mini is unclear on what’s on the horizon. It simultaneously warns of buying new because there might be a new model coming while later saying an updated Mini isn’t expected.

I’m looking to switch out of two Echos for HP Minis because I feel Apple does a better job protecting my privacy vs Google or Amazon. But I hope to not buy something that’s going to be replaced a ~month later. I’ve never actually paid for a smart speaker… got the Echos for free from Amazon years ago.

HomePods and minis look like they will have a very unpredictable update cycle, unlike the iPhone and Apple Watch. Nobody in here can give you a straight answer on this. Are they due for an update? Sure, it’s been four years. Perhaps something capable of Apple Intelligence is on the horizon (which will likely come with a price hike if so). They just updated the Space Gray color to Midnight. Nobody saw that coming.

Rumors can be hit or miss. I remember AirTags were rumored for a few years before they actually released as well as the HomePod Mini.

If you’re constantly waiting for the latest and greatest, you’re going to miss out on some good tech today… and then life will pass you by. If you like it now, just get it. I still have nine OG HomePods that work great. Never felt the need to upgrade to Gen 2. If something does come out after the fact, there’s always a second hand market where you’ll be able to recoup some of your spending.
