Think I’m going to get the 13 mini but was pretty worried that 256GB might not be enough. But Im confused on what my phone is telling me here. The space used doesn’t even match what it’s saying for photos and messages was showing 60GB yesterday and now only 5. So should I be ok with 256 or should I fork out for the 512 today? I also use the 200GB iCloud which I’m quickly realizing is where apple is making their real money in the future.

If the storage reporting mayhem started after installing iOS 15 — that’s the culprit. It still has some bugs.
There’s lots of threads on the iPhone forum complaining about the same thing — wrong and bloated storage report.

Yes I was going to say the same thing, I’m personally facing issues where photos increased storage significantly after updating to iOS 15 both on my old and new phone
If you plan to keep the iPhone for more than a year I’d get the 512GB just so you don’t have to worry about it.
