Arranging Folders by Date on External Hard Drive Not Working on Maverick

I have an external hard drive used for our creative work and since updating to Maverick it does not allow us to arrange our folder structures by date anymore. It still lets us choose to arrange by date but none of the folders move. Anyone have any ideas besides reformatting the external hard drive?
