I really like the indepth reviews that Ars conducts on macOS. Here's Tahoe's review: macOS 26 Tahoe: The Ars Technica review

But even Liquid Glass-skeptical power users should find enough things to like in Tahoe to justify the installation. Maybe you’re already using a clipboard manager or Spotlight replacement that already does more than Apple’s new-and-improved version, but Quick Keys, automated Shortcuts, additional theming options, a more capable version of Metal, and the typical trail-mix-bag full of odds and ends all add up to a release that would feel pretty useful even if it looked the same as it did last year.

Looks like Tahoe + Apple Intelligence consumes 40gb of space on the internal SSD.

When you consider that you now need an additional 50gb or so of "free space" in which to do a full OS upgrade, folks with 256gb SSDs are going to find themselves in a "bag of hurt" pretty quickly unless they're careful about how they manage their internal storage.

Which is why I've been posting over and over in the forum that 256gb is "no longer enough" -- 512gb is "the new 256".

In the same way, 16gb of RAM will soon no longer be enough.
32 will become "the new baseline" -- perhaps 24gb enough to scrape by.

For example, buying a new m4 Mini today with 16gb/256gb makes as much sense as did buying a 2014 Mini in 2016 with 4gb of RAM and a 128gb SSD.
Yes, it will run, and probably do ok... for now.
But one will soon run into "the edges of the envelope" -- probably sooner rather than later...

Excellent article @ Ars Technica especially for those of us who, while not being the most savvy of dabblers in digital wizardry, also aren't amongst the heaving throng of tl;dr... because this nearly dissertation length explanation really deserves the full going over if you have the time.

My biggest take away (when I eventually do dip my toe in Tahoe, not for awhile yet):

Not that any of this hasn't already appeared on MacRumors, but the attention to detail really takes the 🎂
