Artist name doesn't show unless I rename it

I'm using a first generation iPad running ios 5.0.1. For some reason the Artist names won't show up under the Artist tab. However I can still play the songs. In order to get the artists to show.. I would have to rename them. For example, Linkin Park won't show up. But when I rename it to Linkin.. it will show. How do I fix this? Thanks in advance.
