I'm seriously considering an Apple Studio Display... and thinking really hard about the VESA option. My real concern is the fixed height of the ASD tilt stand. My current monitor is on an adjustable monitor arm attached to my desk. The bottom of my current monitor is about 3" from the desktop. From what I can tell, bottom of the ASD on the tilt stand is about 4"... and I have no idea how significant that 1" difference may be. With my current monitor stand, I can adjust the arm up or down as necessary... but the VESA version of the ASD is a special order item, and only available from Apple AFAIK. Of course, with the VESA option, there's no way back to the standard tilt stand.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this decision... am I overthinking this?

Anyone game?

Since you already have an adjustable monitor arm, I’d go with the VESA option. Or if you’re really curious to see if the stand might work for you, why not raise your current monitor an extra inch to see how you like it?

Either way, you can take the display to an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider to have it switched from VESA to a stand or vice versa.

I have two - both VESA models. Believe it or not, the ASD has auto-rotation built in. Rotate the display, and macOS automatically re-orients not only the displayed desktop image but the built-in camera image as well.

I use one in landscape and the other in portrait.

The VESA arms may not be as elegant as the height/tilt stand, but it’s far, far more versatile.
