What is the best way to convert a .asf (Windows Media) file to a standard .mp3 file?

The "best" way is to get a PC running Windows 2000 or XP with a commercial app that supports the ASF format and others (like, say for instance, PowerDirector) and convert it there. That way you know ASF is fully supported by the system so that you have minimal chance of failure when converting to a useful format. The same goes for WMV, for which there is some incomplete support on the Mac but on Windows it's fully supported (gee, really?! :)).
