Asian Character Feature in Snow Leopard - How to select???

I turned on the aforementioned feature and I've been trying to use it. I can do it on my multitouch mac and the character recognition works fine (even the suggested ones) but how do I select it?!? I'm getting so frustrated with this.

You get suggestions to your right. Just click on the right side of your trackpad on the selection you want. Think of the trackpad as a touch screen and the little text input box as what is displayed on it. ;-)
