This is not exactly IPADOS 18 but I couldn’t find any better place to post it. These are the selections under location services:
  • Never to disable Location Services completely for the app.
  • While Using the App to limit Location Services to just when the app is open and active.
  • Always to allow Location Services at all times.
  • Ask Next Time Or When I Share to receive a pop-up request for access.
My question is, what does “When I Share” mean? I have had apps ask permission, but I have no clue what “When I Share” means. And how do I know which option the app will use? I try to limit sharing as much as possible. thanks! Donna

When an app asks for Location permission the first time, you can choose to “Allow Once”. That is the “When I Share” part of “Ask Next Time or When I Share”. The next time the app asks for Location permission, it will show the same permission prompt. If you want to see what it’s like, change the permission for the Weather app, quit the app and reopen it. It’ll ask every time so long as you pick “Allow Once”.

I did the test with the Weather app and it was just as you said. I had it set to “Never”. I changed to “Ask Next Time….” When I opened the app, it showed the permission prompt, I chose “Allow Once” and when I went back into Location services the setting said “When Shared” 🙂 I think Apple could come up with a better way of describing it so it’s more clear but, thank you for explaining.
