Has anyone tried out Ask the DJ?
http://www.wildbits.com/askthedj/
It's software that's supposed to beat-optimize and make smooth mixes out of your songs from iTunes. I downloaded the trial, and I didn't think the mixes were very smooth at all (I tried mostly hip-hop and R&B). Does it work better for other kinds of music? The problem seemed to be that first, the crossfade was too long, and so it included one person rapping over the other and sounded confusing. Also it can't do anything to gauge the mood of the song, which I wouldn't expect, but it makes a big difference.
Can you order the songs yourself and tweak the individual transitions and fades in the full version, if anyone owns it?
Anyone have good luck with this?
Also, if you use it, what d'ya think of the interface? I can't decide if I like it or not. The track browser is awful, but I found you can drag tracks (single or group) from an iTunes window onto the CD in DJ and insert them automatically, which is OK. The other thing is it seems like if you want to burn a CD, you have to make AIFFs first and then separately burn them in other s/w, which seems kinda lame.
Is there any other s/w that does this, but better?
