Trying to help one of my owners update his iPhone 4 to ios 5.0. He is on 4.2.5 and says there is no update option under settings, general, software update...since I am relatively new to IOS I dont know where to tell him to look. He did plug the device into iTunes and checked that way but it said there was no update available....Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

He has to update iTunes first. It has to be on iTunes 10.5 to be able to update to iOS 5. Do that first, and then you can check and it will report the updated iOS available.

CSMchris376 is correct, must be on iTunes 10.5 first.

The reason there's no option on the phone is that iOS4 doesn't support over-the-air updates, that's a new feature in iOS5.
