With the rumours of the fingerprint scanner underneath the Home button, it got me thinking:

Could Apple just use the AssistiveTouch feature as a capacitive Home button and do away with the physical one completely? Then you would be able to have the scanner under the screen itself.

You could then potentially have a larger screen within the current iPhone 5 hardware and have an extra row at the bottom to incorporate, for example, Home, Multitasking, Siri and Security (for fingerprints), which would stay visible unless playing a video.

Thoughts? I'll see if I can do a mockup of whst I mean.

I think there is a physical button in case an app freezes and the screen does not react.
