Associate Pro Display XDR with Apple ID?

I purchased today an used Pro Display XDR Nano. I'm curious about one detail, can the XDR be associated as product, to my Apple ID? I called Apple and they told me there is no such process, in other words, anyone who has a hand on the monitor, can claim it belongs to them. It does not makes any sense to me, please let me know. When I purchase an Apple product, it is automatically associated to my Apple ID.

You can’t add the display to your account, Apple Support is correct.

It’s a peripheral just like a printer or a USB-C Cable. Due the fact you can’t sign in on the display.

Thank you for confirming. To me is a bit weird not being able to add the display to my list of owned Apple products, especially a product of this high cost.
