Astropad today announced the launch of Fresh Coat, a new anti-reflective screen protector that's designed to make the iPhone easier to see outdoors and under bright lights.

Fresh Coat is a glass screen protector that cuts down on up to 75 percent of reflections while preserving color accuracy.

We were able to try out Fresh Coat ahead of launch, and can confirm that it does indeed cut down on reflections without impacting the iPhone's color or display visibility, with no sign of haze. Astropad includes a tray that ensures a precise alignment and makes applying the screen protector foolproof, and it comes with an app clip that walks you through the installation process.

Astropad uses a five-layer system for Fresh Coat, including a flexible bonding layer to cushion drops, a dust barrier to protect from debris, "armorine" tempered glass for screen protection, an oleophobic and hydrophobic coating, and finally, the anti-reflective coating. The entire package is 0.6mm thick.

The same type of anti-reflective technology is rumored to be coming to the iPhone 17 Pro models, and now the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro can get it too. Fresh Coat will also benefit the iPhone 17 models, providing extra reflection reduction. In fact, Astropad says that standard screen protectors will cancel out Apple's antireflective coating, but Fresh Coat will preserve it.

Fresh Coat is priced at $27.99, which includes a 20 percent launch discount. The screen protector is available now from the Astropad website for the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. An iPhone 17 version is also available for pre-order.

Apple offered the nano coating on the display, why are they not offering a glare-reduction feature option on the iPhone, or building in and just raising the price? (Unless it is fragile?) This is a very useful feature.

Probably don’t have the capability to mass produce it in that volume.

How is this any different than any glass matte screen protector you can buy on Amazon for iPhone or iPad? I've used several kinds and like them all. I'm not sure what makes this one special. But, if it's better in some way, I may get one.

It's not matte. It's glossy with an AR coating, like the S24/S25 Ultra.

But does it break the moment you sneeze near it like other glass screen protectors? That's why I went with a film instead.

I've had this "TechArmor" glass screen protector on my 16PM for just over 11 months and it has been amazing. It can't even be noticed unless you look for it at a steep angle. Alignment jig worked perfectly. No cracks, no dog ears, no bubbles, two sub-1cm scratches and a single (albeit long) hairline (faint scratch, not crack) that I only noticed when I closely examined it for this post. Every type of glass screen protector I had used before it got dogeared or cracked after a few months and looked ugly as hell.

Don't let the price of $12/3-pack fool you!

I use AmFilm stuff (probably the same OEM if we're honest) and have for years - cost effective and lasts fine. Plus, if one breaks, the lower cost makes it much less of an annoyance.

I'll stick with my Zagg 360 degree privacy screen protector. Works so well I can hardly see my own screen (half joking). But yes, it's actually good.

One thing to keep in mind with glass protectors is if you don't use a case they are extremely fragile at the edges which is why they break so easily.

If you use a case it's not really an issue, any discussion about durability should also include that detail.

For similar reasons I hope Apple eventually adds nano texture as an option to the iPhone, even if it's some Ultra model.

its about $20 different! haha.

personally, i go with the privacy screen protectors that make the screen dark or reflective when viewed off angle. worth paying for to me.

This tech has been on the ultraglass screen protector for at least a year. What I really want is this coating for iPad screen protectors.
There is a protector called the Hoda for the iPad that has this coating. Unfortunately, after shipping costs, it ends up being like $90 and doesn’t include an install tray. Haven’t ordered it for this exact reason.

I just got an iphone 16 pro. I would buy it if they included a second screen protector like everyone else does at the same price. No installation is foolproof, even with a frame, and it really sucks when one is damaged during installation and you're out $37 (after tax and pricey $5 shipping charge.) But until i get that second screen protector, I'll look elsewhere.

Not sure what ones you are using but I haven't had an issue with them breaking on my devices and I have been using them for years.

I'm currently using an anti-reflective protector on my 16 PM. From 'Omoton'. I have no idea if it's any worse or better than the one from Astropad. But I will say it works very well.

My issue, and I suspect a problem with anyone else who is case-less like me, is that it can easily chip and crack on the edges and corners.

I'd really prefer an anti-reflective screen on the iPhone itself. Like what we have on the S24/25 Ultra.
