A new Windows professional XP wSP2 product appeared a few days back at amazon.com. The same product was already on sale by amazon and had a rating of 3/5. The "new" product has a rating of 5/5 (strangely enough considering it is the exact same thing), while the only review to date (30-04-06) has been written by a reviewer who posted his first review again only a few days back. In these few days he has written a bunch of reviews most of them less then 4 lines long. Meanwhile the MacOSX product which had a rating of 4.5/5 few weeks back has slided to 4/5. Does this seem like a case of astroturfing to anyone else?

I think you are reading into this too much. I also think you are reading too much, unless you have excellent observation skills (which is entirely possible of course). :)

This sort of 'cheating' of the marks happens all the time on the net. But as Janey pointed out, people are going to base their choice of OS on a little more than someones review on Amazon.
