My wife works out of our house for a law firm and they just came of with their policy for at home workers.

One of the points she mentioned was you can only work in one room in the house.

Can they actually tell is she moves to a different room within the house? We are planning on moving her office to a different room but she is worried they will find out.

She works off of a laptop she purchased herself and connected to wifi.

We plan on moving her from the main floor to the second floor.

By default, no. It would require specific software that the office installed on her Mac or required her to install. Confer with her to see if that has been done.

She may have been told that for tax purposes.

I believe the dedicated office goes to IRS regulations for deductions. I'm not sure why the firm is requiring it though.
